This was a book I designed for my MFA. The story is a song written by singer/songwriter Shanti Webb. Although the surface meaning describes a love story of two out of time/out of place lovers (ala Nick Bantock's Griffin and Sabine stories), the real story is about the passing of my Boxer dog named Starr.
This book was created by collaging high resolution scans of victorian lithographs and renascence engravings.
This was a book I designed for my MFA. The story deals with relationships, the different stages, predictability and outcomes.
This book was created by collaging high resolution scans of early to mid-century men's magazines contrasted with Playboy® adverts in a blend of 1930's to 1970's approaches to romance, sex and domesticity.
All design is constant and variable. This book was designed with that in mind. Using photos from my recording studio and high resolution scans of The Beatles Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, I created variations of the theme—Record—using connotative and denotative approaches. An LP record's disc shape, a 45 single spacer and three prominent colors sampled from Sgt Pepper help glue the composition together.
This was a fun MFA project I wanted to share. Take a traditional album and redesign it from another time period. I chose Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and legendary designer Saul Bass. The illustration is based on Bass's hand cut type and illustrative style, complete with Franklin Gothic to keep it period specific.
